Essendon young gun Zach Merrett has been named the Rising Star nominee for Round 11 following his impressive 22-disposal, two goal performance against Richmond on Saturday.
Merrett – whose older brother Jackson also plays for the Bombers – has played seven of a possible 10 matches this season, averaging 13 disposals, three marks and three tackles per game as a half forward.
Earlier this season Merrett told aflplayers.com.au Jason Winderlich had been a fantastic influence; earlier today, Merrett touched on the impact Paul Chapman has had on his career to date.
“Paul Chapman’s been very good this year, for me,” Merrett said.
“He’s helped me a lot and has pointed me in the right direction. Hopefully I can learn as much off him as I can, and he’ll be a good help.”
