Reigning AFLW MVP again Garner’s attention

A dominant display from the reigning AFLW Players’ MVP Jasmine Garner headlines the Round 7 AFLW MVP of the Week nominees, proudly supported by July.

Brisbane’s Ally Anderson and Fremantle’s Kiara Bowers are the other two nominees in line for the weekly award.

Garner continued her strong season with a best-on-ground performance helping her side to an important 11-point victory over the Bulldogs, which all but solidified the club’s spot in the top eight. The 26-year-old gathered 28 disposals, laid eight tackles and six rebound 50s. But it was her work in the contest that was most impressive, finishing the game with a record-breaking 13 clearances.

Nominated for the first time this season, Anderson led the way for Brisbane in their thrilling three-point victory over the previously undefeated Magpies.

Anderson was everywhere with 26 touches (a game-high 19 kicks), four marks and three inside 50s.

In what was arguably one of the greatest AFLW comebacks, hard-nosed Dockers midfielder Bowers shone. Trailing for majority of the game, Fremantle charged home with three goals in the final nine minutes of the game to steal a four-point victory over the Blues. Bowers led the way with 10 tackles to go with her 28 touches (22 kicks), three inside 50s and three rebound 50s.
