Torrens University and the AFL Players’ Association renew partnership

Torrens University Australia and the AFL Players’ Association (AFLPA) are thrilled to announce a two-year extension of their partnership, solidifying a shared commitment to the education and development of AFLPA members.

This thriving collaboration, which began 3 years ago, will continue to offer a range of educational opportunities tailored to meet the unique needs of both past and present AFL and AFLW players.

Since its inception in 2020, the partnership has seen more than 100 enrolments from AFLPA members. Courses studied have included Community Services, Business, Sports, IT, Design and MBA studies.

Melbourne Demon Alex Neal-Bullen was one of the first players to receive a Torrens University scholarship. Alex is now in his 3rd year of  a Bachelor of Business (Sports Management) and said he’s grateful for the opportunity and guidance he has received.

“I really appreciate the work life balance while being set up for success after my footy career, and the support Torrens has given me has been incredible, ” Alex said.

AFLPA members have access to a diverse range of academic programs, including undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as professional development courses, all of which are specially designed to accommodate the demanding schedules of elite athletes.

Darryn Melrose, Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Industry Partnerships at Torrens University, expressed his enthusiasm about the renewed partnership.

“We are delighted to continue our collaboration with the AFL Players Association. This extension reflects our shared commitment to empowering athletes with the education and skills necessary for success in life beyond their sporting careers,” said Mr Melrose.

“We have seen some inspiring achievements on the program and we look forward to working alongside the broader AFLPA team and contributing to all the forthcoming initiatives.”

AFLPA CEO Paul Marsh agreed said the successful collaboration spoke to the strength of the partnership and the shared values of both organisations.

“It’s been heartening to work alongside Torrens University to provide opportunities and areas for growth for our members, and I look forward to seeing those opportunities increase and develop over the next two years,” said Mr Marsh.

”We are excited to continue this journey with Torrens University as we foster the personal and professional growth of athletes beyond the football field.”
