Lions salute Black

Channel 7 and the Brisbane Lions have created this incredible three-part video tribute to Simon Black, one of the most respected and decorated players of the past 20 years.

Drafted by the Brisbane Lions in 1997 from the East Fremantle Football Club, he debuted in the first game of the 1998 season and quickly became one of Brisbane’s best players. He won the 2002 Brownlow Medal, the 2003 Norm Smith Medal and the 2001, 2002, and 2006 Merrett-Murray Medals awarded to the best and fairest player with the Brisbane Lions.

Black won three premiership medallions and was part of the infamous ‘Fab Four’ with fellow Brisbane midfielders Michael Voss, Nigel Lappin and Jason Akermanis, who are still regarded as one of the best midfield combinations of all time.

Watch the three part tribute below as Mick Malthouse, Leigh Matthews, Matthew Richardson, Dennis Commetti, Jonathon Brown, Cameron Ling, Tim Watson, and Bruce McAvaney reflect on the career of this absolute champion.
