Garner trumps the field to become the final MVP of the Week

Jasmine Garner becomes the third Collingwood player to win the AFLW MVP of the Week, presented by Gloria Jean’s, after receiving 46 per cent of the fan vote to trump the field in Round 7. She follows in the footsteps of Chloe Molloy (Round 1) and Christina Bernardi (Round 6), while no other club received multiple MVP of the Week titles.

Garner managed 16 touches, seven tackles and three goals while putting an end to Adelaide’s season on Sunday. The speedy forward sealed the deal for the Pies with an opportunistic finish to stretch the lead to 19 points with just three minutes remaining.

Despite kicking four goals and collecting 18 disposals, the Brisbane Lions’ Sabrina Frederick-Traub fell short of MVP of the Week honours by just 16 votes, as her pivotal performance helped steer her club to their second consecutive Grand Final berth.

Fremantle’s Dana Hooker, who has been nominated twice this season, finished in third place following her 25 touches and a goal against the Blues.
