Dominant Drennan claims AFLW MVP of the Week for Round 4

After a magnificent performance in her side’s narrow win, Gold Coast midfielder Alison Drennan has taken out the vote for the round 4 of the MVP of the Week competition, brought to you by Snaffle.

The running machine was at her best in the Suns’ come-from-behind win against Richmond at Metricon Stadium on Sunday.

The Suns’ 5.9 (39) to 5.4 (34) victory marks the first time that the club has won back-to-back games, with Drennan playing a contributing role.

The 31-year-old’s work in the midfield throughout the match kept her side within reach of victory.

But Drennan’s true brilliance shone through when the Suns’ entered the final term trailing by eight points.

The former track athlete kicked it up a notch in the last quarter, collecting 11 of her 27 disposals and five of her nine clearances to secure the Suns’ 5-point victory.

Gold Coast coach Cameron Joyce praised Drennan’s efforts after the match.

“She just doesn’t stop running. She just gets from contest to contest and gives herself an opportunity to get the footy. She’s been working so hard across the whole pre-season, and it probably came out for her today, which was great.” He said.
