Round 2 nominees announced for AFLW MVP of the Week

Three new faces have been nominated for the AFLW MVP of the Week for Round 2, presented by Gloria Jean’s. Melbourne’s Karen Paxman, Fremantle’s Dana Hooker and the Western Bulldogs’ Emma Kearney have been selected after enjoying strong performances.

Melbourne’s season has got off to the best possible start, winning their first two games and scoring more than 100 points combined. Paxman has proved again to be one of the strongest workers in the middle of the ground in AFLW02, and this was no different in Round 2 where she gathered 21 disposals in her side’s 32-point triumph over last year’s premiers, despite spending only 71 per cent of the game on the ground due to a back issue.

In what was a record crowd for an AFLW match, Fremantle’s Dana Hooker took all before her in the Docker’s stirring 13-point win, collecting 20 classy disposals and kicking two important goals in their narrow victory.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-0 against the Lions on Sunday, and it was Emma Kearney who led the way. The strong-bodied midfielder collected 18 disposals and laid nine tackles in their gutsy nine-point triumph.

The AFL Players’ Association has partnered with Gloria Jean’s to stage the prestigious AFLW Players’ MVP Award at the end of the season, and the AFLW MVP of the Week, a new concept that provides the fans with the opportunity to vote for the best performer of the round.
